A refined and evocative example of *Memento Mori*, in which the depiction of a skull is combined with a large pair of wings, creating a composition of striking visual impact.


The winged skull belongs to a long European iconographic tradition linked to themes of *Vanitas*, the transience of existence, and the passage of time. The image of a skull paired with wings has been used to symbolically express the fleeting nature of life and the common destiny of mankind.


The composition is distinguished by large, widely spread wings; they are richly modeled and characterized by a textured surface and an antiqued patina that accentuates their weathered appearance.


The skull and wings are crafted from patinated, gypsum-based stucco; a rectangular wooden element is found on the back of the wings, serving the assembly system and the insertion of the central pin.


Indeed, the skull is mounted on a structure consisting of a central metal pin and a decorative bronze element, allowing the various parts of the composition to be assembled and—if necessary—separated.


Completing the piece is a substantial base made entirely of marble, featuring profiles, moldings, and architectural forms that lend the object a particularly elegant and monumental presence.


A particularly interesting construction detail is the ability to disassemble the composition: the skull, wings, central pin, and decorative bronze element can all be detached from the base, revealing the unique construction technique of the assembly.


THE PAIR


Two examples belonging to the same pair are available; they are very similar to one another but not perfectly identical. While sharing the same overall design, each piece exhibits slight variations in modeling, surface texture, and patina—characteristics that confirm their handcrafted nature.
Displayed together, the two Winged Skulls create an even more dramatic visual impact, forming a striking, near-mirror-image composition.
