Beautiful sculpture of a fleshless face with a Memento Mori theme in polychrome alabaster, wooden base with bronze inserts.

The sculpture is the representation of a Joan of Arc, a work originally created by Professor Giuseppe Bessi (1857-1922), a famous Italian artist and sculptor, his original signature is present on the back of the sculpture.

On the back of the base is painted a phrase written specifically in reverse that says NASCI VIVI MUORI (BORN ALIVE DIE - you can see a photo taken in front of a mirror).

The nineteenth-century object was subsequently modified into a Memento Mori between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, certainly by an expert and excellent artist, who made the work unique in the world of its kind.
