A bronze bombard, also known as a "mortaio d'allegrezza" features some letters and an initial cross, with a truly marvelous surface patina that has developed over the centuries.

These objects, which were actually small cannons, were used for various purposes, both for signaling and for celebrations, such as fireworks.

Italy, 16th/17th century.
