Exceptional ecclesiastical marble altar plaque with funerary engravings.

Probably from an Italian church with origins linked to the theme of death, these plaques were inserted in the early stages of altar construction.

The central square shape usually contained a relic or message. In this case, it is no longer present.

The engravings depict two skull profiles with two Latin words on parchment that read NASCENDO MORIMUS.

Italy, likely dated between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
