Exceptional large Nautilus shell completely engraved and perforated. A work of art probably made in the 19th century in Germany.

The wonderful engravings are marine themed with monsters and ships, and a Latin phrase is present in the central area inside a cartouche, PER ASPERA AD ASTRA which means "Through the roughness I am to the stars".

The perforation workmanship is impressive, for the quality of execution and for the attention that the artist had to pay to not pierce and damage the internal chambers of the Nautilus. The inserted chain is an element that makes us understand that the object was born to be hung.
