The head is mounted on a wooden panel covered in red velvet, inserted within an imposing gilded frame in Neo-Renaissance style, richly decorated with ornamental motifs and small floral elements at the corners.
The ensemble is particularly interesting due to the contrast between the dark patinated terracotta, the intense red of the velvet, and the brilliance of the gilded frame.

It is a typical object of 19th-century decorative culture linked to the Renaissance Revival, when elements from the Renaissance and heraldic repertoire were reinterpreted to furnish studies, libraries, state rooms, and upper-middle-class homes.
