A wrought-iron mask of torture and infamy, composed of forged elements subsequently assembled and adapted, currently mounted on a wooden pedestal.

It can be traced back to the typology of so-called "masks of infamy," devices used between the late Middle Ages and the modern era in Europe as instruments of coercion, containment, and public humiliation. In some cases, these objects could also have a direct punitive function through the physical constriction of the face.

These instruments were not designed to conceal, but to expose: the subject was made visible, recognizable, transformed into a warning.

The structure features irregular handwork, layered oxidation, and numerous subsequent interventions, including wire bindings, adaptations, and functional modifications, evidence of the object's long evolution over time.

It is plausible that this is a historical assembly or reworking based on an ancient base, rather than an artifact entirely contemporary with its typological origin.
The wooden stand, created later, allows for proper display of the object, enhancing its scenic presence and visual impact.

A highly aesthetic and evocative object, ideal for Wunderkammer collections, eclectic environments, or installations with a historical and theatrical feel.
