A unique and rare glazed terracotta sculpture modeled after a near-life-size human skull, conceived as a tobacco container with a removable lid.


The work features a lizard applied along the skull and a toad modeled on the top lid, elements symbolically associated with transience, death, and vanitas imagery.
The surface retains a splendid antique patina with earthy tones and deep color variations due to age and the firing of the glaze.


The object shows some signs of wear, small losses, and ancient restorations consistent with its age and use.


A visually striking sculpture, extremely decorative and perfectly in keeping with the Wunderkammer, Memento Mori, and macabre 19th-century collecting traditions.
