Exceptional 17th/18th-century canvas painting featuring a macabre depiction of the death of Achilles, the Greek myth.Death is represented by a skeleton with a scythe embracing Achilles, who has been struck by an arrow in his weak spot, his right heel. Exceptional colors!

The canvas undoubtedly underwent alterations and restorations during the Second World War, as evidenced by pieces of newspaper glued to the back. As can be clearly seen from the UV-lighted images, some subjects appear to have been added and altered.
