An elegant patinated terracotta sculpture depicting a faun embracing a nymph, a typical iconography of so-called Bacchic scenes, representations inspired by the mythological world of Bacchus, god of wine and the vitality of nature, populated by satyrs, nymphs, and figures associated with pleasure and the freedom of the senses.

The model is clearly inspired by the famous compositions of Claude Michel (Clodion), a French sculptor known for his terracotta groups animated by movement, sensuality, and theatricality, highly appreciated since the 18th century and successfully revived in 19th-century decorative art.

The surface features a polychrome patina imitating bronze, a technique frequently used in 19th-century decorative sculpture to give terracotta depth and character.

The composition is particularly dynamic: the faun, seated on a naturalistic base, holds the female figure in a sinuous movement reminiscent of late Baroque models reinterpreted in a Romantic style.
