Small carved alabaster memento mori mortar, 17th century Italy.

Truncated conical body with a contoured rim and sculpted relief decoration depicting skulls and crossbones alternating with hourglasses, an iconography typically associated with meditation on the transience of life and the passage of time.

The object has a deeply worn surface, with an antique patina, consistent wear, and traces of use that accentuate its austere and contemplative character.

Its compact size and strong visual presence make it particularly suitable for cabinets of curiosities, memento mori collections, or interiors with a Baroque or collectors' taste.
