Painting on panel depicting the martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist.

A historical and macabre scene with the beheading of the saint by a soldier of King Herod upon the desire of Salome, daughter of Herodias.

The head served on a tray, the decapitated body with blood still gushing are details that make the scene very eloquent of the martyrdom suffered.
